Police killed her brother

for stealing a piece of chicken;

she says there’s nothing

to do but squat. She’s had

babies this way. Some nothing

more than arteries,

gray matter and fluid.

Three came out all right,

and were taken away

by bureaucrats. She’s homeless.

She’s been raped and almost killed.

They say she’s mad. For her,

sanity is a crime.

“I’m not stuck on stupid,”

she exclaims, and welcomes the

chaos which crackles out

of social construct. It’s

her only peace in the

piece of the street at war.

She rants & raves, but it’s all

ricochet from the bullet

that has claimed her since birth.

She pulls at strands of hair

flooding a furrowed face,

declares herself twine,

thimble and an ace of hearts.
